Nikon's D700

Boy let me tell you what, I am in love with this camera. I am blown away with the fact I can shoot up to 3200 ISO without noise. This is my 3rd digital SLR from Nikon and its good to see that Nikon has gotten it better with each new generation.

I started with my first D-SLR with a D100. At the time I thought it was fantastic, but it seemed to really lack a range of exposure. The darks were dark and the lights were light. Meaning the shadows were underexposed and the lights or brightest spots of the shot were overexposed and washed out. It was frustrating as it seemed I wasn’t getting the shots I saw in the viewfinder. I learned how to deal with this by bracketing the shot and correcting them in Photoshop.

On a trip to the east coast in the summer of 2007 I had an opportunity to buy the new D200 as my D100 stopped focusing and I wasn’t about to have a camera on the trip of a lifetime. The D200 was a step up for sure as it broadened the range of exposure I complained about with the D100. But I still wasn’t impressed with the results.

Over the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday I found myself faced with a decision and an opportunity to step up to the well praised Nikon D700 which lies between the Nikon D300 and Pro body Nikon D3. I am, to say the least, amazed with the range of exposure  this camera offers. I can now take images in dark situations and get results that are amazing. Plus I get a more balanced image when I shoot where contrasts of bright and shadows are present which is closer to the way our eyes see things. The only downfall to this camera is that if I want to take advantage of the new full-frame FX sensor you need to use the full frame lenses. Although all the older lenses still work perfectly. It will be fun to explore all the new things Nikon has packed it to this new model. Look for my new work and see if you can see the difference in the new images taken with the Nikon D700.
